Sitges, a short 7 minute drive away, is a lovely town 35 km south of Barcelona. With more than 300 sunny days a year and thanks to its special micro-climate, 'Summer' lasts longer here than anywhere else in the area. It is particularly famous for its long seafront and beautiful sandy beach, as well as for its harbour, restaurants, shops and picturesque streets. The promenade runs the length of the beaches and is popular for summer evening strolls and perfect for rollerblading or biking. Sitges has a number of world famous festivals: fiesta major, carnaval, corpus cristi (when the streets are carpeted with flowers), a tango festival and a film festival in autumn. There are numerous cultural events from intimate jazz, classic and opera performances to small pop and rock concerts. The town also offers hundreds of restaurants, cafes and bars offering everything from quite dinners to late night dancing. The Penedes region is 30 minutes away by car and offers wine and Cava (Catalan Champagne) tasting tours. The Garraf National Park offers many pleasant walking and biking trails (GR Routes). The Garaff Park is one of the best nature parks around Barcelona. The park has excellent walking or biking paths, and is a highlight for anyone interested in wildlife. A Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, visible from the house, is located 5km to the east in the middle of the park. One of the most popular European destinations, Barcelona is only 30 minutes away. Barcelona is Spain's most cosmopolitan city and is best known for its Gaudi architecture, pulsating night life and avenues for strolling along. There is plenty of family fun, with an excellent aquarium, IMAX cinema and shopping malls. Only 45 minutes away is Port Aventura, the second biggest theme park in Europe. Set up by Universal Studios, it has one of the fastest roller coasters and rides for all ages. |
