Raval is a neighborhood of Barcelona part of Ciutat Vella, or the Old City, along with Gotico, or the Gothic Quarter, Born, Barceloneta, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera. It is bordering with Gotico and is separated from it by the emblematic Barcelona street Las Ramblas. Known for its particular and authentic atmosphere and personality, its narrow and sometimes dark streets, Raval is a perfect area for young city explorers and the travelers who want to feel the air of an ancient historic Barcelona. Riddled with small bars, cafes, restaurants and shops, at the beginning of the XX century Raval was known to be the red-light district of Barcelona.
